My First Post!
28 August 2008 | By mikearlo-wafx in UncategorizedHi Gang Arlo here with my first entry in the new blog. I really wasn’t to sure what to write about until I had a chat with our Program Director ( Mike Beck ) His idea was for me to write about whatever random thoughts popped into my head. After he realized who’s thought process he was talking about we had a good laugh. His next suggestion was that I write about my trip to Richmond for the NASCAR race. With everything that’s been said, and written about the finish of the race I believe it will go down as one of the major moments of this season. I thought it was a testament to Virginia’s race fans that Richmond added 7,000 seats last year, and not only sold all the tickets, but people showed up in spite of $3.50 a gallon gas. They also scored the highest TV ratings for a Richmond Spring race. I had a major Homer Simpson moment during Driver introductions. Some background is in order, last year Richmond International removed 4,000 seats that they labeled “restricted, or obstructed view”, and built a huge new 11,000 seat front stretch grandstand for a net gain of 7,000 seats. Last fall I looked in vain for those missing seats, and just couldn’t find them. This year I was laughing at the crowd reaction to certain drivers as they circled the track, until they entered turn 3, that’s when I let out a big “Doooaaah”. All the seats in the lower level between turn 3, and 4 have been removed. If comedian Bill Engvall had been sitting in our section I would have been handed “my sign” for sure. I still don’t know how I missed them. But did I call my friend Aimee Turner the track’s Public Relations Director, and just ask ? Nooooo! Well there’s always next time. By the way I’m typing this on my new laptop computer. Who would have thunk it, me knee deep in the wonderful world of Wi-Fi. It would be almost tempting to drag out that line about “Teaching old dogs” , but we’re not gonna go there. Till next time “Bye-Cycle” Make it a great day” ( arf arf ). :- ) Arlo

Good moring, Arlo,
You have got to be the hardest working man in radio. I’ve been gone for a week and came back to you being on days. What happened ?
Well William in all the surveys our listeners kept asking for a wider varity of Classic Hits, and more music with less talk in the morning. Thanks for the comments, and welcome back.

Good morinig, Arlo,
I asked a question on 2 Sept but my mail went down and I didn’t get your answer. Also, I just want to say that the new music format is awesome!! The variety is great and I wish I could pick you up on my computer, but alas, I’m monitored.
I do miss the National Anthem in the morning. It was refreshing after 9-11 to start my day with hearig it. Being a retired member of the military and knowing your affinity towards our armed forces I find the Anthem upfting and patriotic. Thank you Mike, for great music and entertainment.
Thanks Bill, and we are playing the National Anthem each morning around 6 a.m. now.

Some of us remember listening to Arlo in the morning some time ago.I am glad that you have changed format. Listenting to DJ’s talk to each other is not what I listen to the radio for.you can get plenty of that from mancow and those two idiots in the aftwernoon on 96. Thanks Again!!!!!
Hi Jay thanks so much for taking the time to drop me a line. Glad you’re enjoying the change. Well gotta get back to work, thanks again, and “Make it a great day. Mike Arlo

I have listen to “the fox” since the late 1980s. It was after a trip to Coralla N.C. and a friend told me about your station. You played great music back then and I would listen on the way to and from work on my car radio.
Recently I took you guys & girls off of the radio button and programed another station in your place. Now that Arlo is on in the morning I have put you back on my radio. What a great show.
Thanks,
Kenny

Hi Arlo, I was surprised to hear you in the morning. I had stopped listening to the fox because there was so little music. I listened for the whole hour today on the way to work. Thanks for the big variety also.

I am totally in agreement with Karen…I never heard any music on my way to work…just talk, talk, talk so I got to where I didn’t even turn the radio on; on my way home best music ever. So now I am enjoying music on the way to work. Wholeheartedly agree with the changes….it was a long time coming.

Hello Mike! Love the new changes at the fox. We listen every day from the Red Cross. Please continue playing different cuts, the deeper the better. May be you could put in a good word in for us with the “count” about giving blood!! Thanks for the tunes and smiles, Rich.

Hey Arlo,
I just started listening to you again after about a 9 year hiatus. I moved to JAX FL from Newport News in 99. After getting disgusted with the morning listening venues available here I started thinking about who I enjoyed listening to over the years and you immediately came to mind. So… now I listen to you on line in my office every morning. I know you haven’t been gone.. but welcome back anyway.
Charlie

I have listened to The Fox for years while vacationing on the Bay, but now I can listen on line here in Bedford, Va. Your morning show is great with all the classics plus deep cuts you play. Being able to listen on the beach and listen in the mountains, what could be better!! Keep up the good work.
Chris

Arlo, thanks for continuing the tradition of “Alice’s Restaurant” on Thanksgiving. I called my brother in Kentucky to remind him to listen. Keep up the good job in the morning, my commute on days (7 am -7pm) is rocking now. If anybody had any doubts before, you are definitely “da man.”
Rock On
